Feed Your Soil - Urban Farming Workshop
Learn how to feed your soil at this educational on-farm event about multi-species cover cropping and composting for improved soil health.
During the event, we will:
• Take a tour of San Antonio Food Bank's 25-acre urban farm, where they produce thousands of pounds of fresh vegetables for their community every year.
• Learn how and why the Food Bank produces compost onsite for their fruits and vegetables.
• Show you how to terminate fall-panted cover crops.
• Demonstrate how cover crops impact your soil's ability to properly absorb water.
• Hear about successes and challenges the Food Bank has had with their cover cropping.
• Learn how to work with NRCS to benefit your urban farm.
• Present the principles of soil health and why they work to build healthy, productive soils.
Lunch is included thanks to Catalyst Catering from the San Antonio Food Bank. The workshop is funded by The Small Producer Initiative’s “Cover Cropping Research on Regenerative Soil Solutions, Education, Extension and Demonstration (RReSSEED)” USDA-NRCS Award NR217442XXXXC024.
